I'm Done

4 min read
After my polite request to the administration here to review my Bizarro Barbies in light of the Dec 2007 policy change allowing sexually themed humor, the response I got was a one liner stating the logs said the photos were pulled for their sexual overtones, so they wouldn't be reinstated.  Not that the admin bothered to look at the photos in question, just that the logs said that, so screw it.  I sent the following in response:

To: [name redacted to protect the guilty]

I'm not sure if my last message went through, cause everything disappeared and I have no record of either your original response or my reply after I hit send, so I'm trying this again.  I noted in your message that you said "the logs" indicated my photos were pulled for sexual overtones and so they won't be reinstated.  This leads me to suspect you did not actually look at the photos in question, only the logs connected with them.

I  know they were pulled for that reason originally, however the policy change from December 2007 states Adult Content can be flagged appropriately for "Sexual Themes" which includes "References to sex or overt sexuality, including sexual based humor. This does not mean you may submit sexually explicit or pornographic images."  The images in question are Barbie Dolls posed together and are not pornographic.  They show less detail than the artistic nudes allowed on the site, and one of them is merely sitting on a couch in a bikini.  So I'm not understanding how Barbie Dolls posed together (with sexual references, but obviously humorous intent) violates the current policies that allow sexual themes (wouldn't "sexual overtones" be sexual themes?).  If they are flagged to indicate that they are sexually themed and minors can't even see them, I don't understand how there is a problem.

If you haven't actually looked at the photos, can you please review them and then explain how they violate the policy as updated in December?  If you cannot see them, I have links to them here: www.flickr.com/photos/lady_els… .  All the ones except the Shishka Barbie and Barbie Kebabs shots are the ones I'm referring to.  I have moderated on other sites, so this isn't a question of just wanting to flaunt the rules--I'm actually pretty anal about following rules myself, and I understand that judgement calls need to be made.  But I never in a million years thought that a bunch of Barbies posed together would be deemed explicit enough to be pulled off an art site, so I'm just trying to understand how they don't work with the current policies in place.

Thank you for your time,
Elsinore

Predictably, the admin in question ignored my request to actually view/review the photos.  So I'm done.  dA is really deviant alrighty.  And they definitely care about art, sure.  If you do a search for "barbie porn" on here, you'll turn up plenty of other similar Barbie shots to mine, many of which date back 4 or 5 years.  But for whatever reason, my photos aren't appropriate.  They're too deviant, if you will, and the fact that policy was specifically changed in Dec 2007 to clarify and allow for these kinds of themes in deviations just doesn't matter.  What a joke.

I have deleted all my deviations, and I've sent the following note back to the admin in question to make crystal clear that I terminate any licenses over my photos:

To: [name redacted to protect the guilty]

Regarding my Bizarro Barbie series which was blocked by you/your staff and which you refused to look at or reinstate despite the Dec 2007 policy change allowing sexually themed humor, I have deleted all my deviations and hereby give you notice that dA should completely delete Menage Troirbie, Tramp Stamp Barbie in Action, Blowjob Barbie in Action, and Bikini Boner Ken from any and all of its systems, and I revoke any permissions to use, distribute, display etc these works from this point forward.

I suggest you do a search for "barbie porn" on dA whereby you'll turn up plenty of other similar art that fits the Dec 2007 policy change, yet much of it was around long before then.  The targeting of my particular pictures out of the masses still bewilders me, but whatever.  dA clearly cares little to nothing for its own policies, much less the art or artists on the site.  Good day.
*************************************************

So I'm done.  dA has marginalized itself, and the admin in charge of enforcing policy can't be bothered to uphold it in anything but an arbitrary manner.  This isn't worth my time or energy.  I'm too old for this crap.  I'll be on Flickr.

I have hope...

I haven't been to dA since last summer.  I had determined to quit the site over the policy violations my Bizarro Barbies racked up, but I hadn't actually closed out my account.  I realized this evening that I hadn't done that, so I came back intending to do just that.

However, as I waded through the 100+ messages that had accrued in my absence, I noticed that there have been some policy changes, and artists can now flag adult content, including content which is sexually themed/uses sexual humor.  I think my Bizarro Barbies should fit in those categories, so I have requested (again) that they be re-instated so I can flag them under the new policy.  I really hope reason will prevail.  I'll keep ya'll posted...

DA is so "deviant" that fashion dolls posed together are too much for anyone on DA to view.  I received a single sentence response to my inquiries as to why Blowjob Barbie in Action was pulled.  I'd post the exact response here, but unfortunately it disappeared as soon as I hit reply and sent my reply.  But the response was along the lines of:

"Such sexually themed images images are not allowed here, regardless of reason"

And just for icing on the cake, they pulled Menage Troirbe, Trampstamp Barbie in Action, and even Bikini Boner Ken who wasn't even engaged in any activity but sitting in his underwear.  Here is what I sent back in response:

"[DA Admin name],

I honestly expected more of an answer to my inquiry than such a short, curt reponse.  The images do not depict sex--did you or the original person who pulled it (or the other three that have now been pulled) actually look at the photos?  I have been more than patient and polite, but this policy decision makes absolutely no sense, and I am frankly offended to have my images lumped in with the likes of child porn and graphic sex.  DA allows for artistic nudes which show full genitalia--these are fashion dolls which don't even have genitals, and the images themselves are only obliquely suggestive of sex.  Had the images not been titled as they were I have to wonder if they would have even been pulled.  Without the title, who would know or think that "Blowjob Barbie in Action" was doing that?

I also noticed that you (or someone) pulled "Bikini Boner Ken", an image in which the doll is merely posed in underwear.  Exactly how is that sexually themed?  There are plenty of images on DA of actual people posed in or out of their underwear, yet those images are just fine.

Again, I see no logic in this decision, and I would like further review, especially given I have had even more images pulled for amorphous and ill-defined "policy violations".  I really expected more from a site with Deviant in its name than to have images of Barbie dolls posed together deleted for being too racy."

This situation is beyond ridiculous....

What the fuck

Ok, I've been away from DA for several months--life just got hectic--but I came back tonight to find that DA has pulled one of my Bizarro Barbies for a "policy violation" with a list of possible policy violations, but not actually saying which one it violated.  I'm guessing it's the "Depiction of a sex act" one, but it's still ludicrous.  The image they pulled was Blowjob Barbie in Action, and I'm guessing the person who pulled it did so based on the name only and didn't bother looking at the photo (nor did they look at any of the other images in my gallery like Menage Troirbe or Trampstamp Barbie in Action).  The image in question can be seen here: www.flickr.com/photos/lady_els… .  Yep, they pulled an image of a fully clothed fashion doll posed with another fashion doll, both of which lack anatomical body parts ostensibly because the image "depicted sex".  What's more, Menage Troirbe and Trampstamp Barbie in Action remain in my gallery.

After wading through the Help Desk topics for 10 minutes (because the Help Desk topics are soooo well organized), I finally found a place to request a review of my photo.  I pointed out that the image in question is very obviously ridiculous and satiracal, and no one would think it actually depicted sex.  I also expressed my displeasure at the seeming lack of insight or investigation prior to pulling my image.  The form note that pops up after you submit your request says it could take 72 hours or more for them to process the request.  Joy.

I realize that actual sex acts might be out of place on DA, that's fine. But can someone please use a little fucking logic when applying policies?  My image was filed in humor--hell I would have even seen an argument for moving it to mature (if you're REALLY concerned that some 13 year old might be harmed by seeing fashion dolls on top of one another), but to completely yank it?  This is ludicrous, and it makes me seriously question my continued presence on DA, let alone submitting anything further to my gallery here.
